completely off the wall

My red room is an easy room - life just feels easy when you hang out there. I'm pretty content with my furnishings in this room, but I have this big wall with one picture smack dab in the middle. Do I need to take that picture completely off the wall and do something totally different or do I need to leave it and do a grouping? If I do a grouping, I need suggestions. I've visited enough of your blogs to know that you have extremely good taste, so if you happen upon my blog, please leave your advice...it would be so very much appreciated!
P.S. I'm not a lover of symmetry!

The rest of the room...

Becky, I am glad you enjoyed the Penny story. I do feel blessed every time it happens. Let's see, the picture. I think it looks a little under scale for the wall. Not sure what the rest on the room looks like but you could do several things. 1. replace the picture with one large and more rectangle. 2. Add plates, shutters, decorative shelves or coordinating pictures maybe even small mirrors. Here is a thought, I see you have an old door next to the sofa. Some people hang them on the wall horizontal, the Nester. You gave hang thing on top of the door as well. Hope that helps. Wish I could have a better feel of the room. Whatever I can do to help I will. Heather

Heather, I added the "rest of the room" pictures to my post so you can get a feel of the room. What your seeing as "an older door" is actually just a hallway opening with a door in the background. I hope this helps...
I like your ideas, especially the plates, shelf, pics. After seeing the entire room, if you have other ideas, please share. Thanks...you've been a huge help already!:)

I think you could keep the picture but add something around it to make the wall imprint a bit bigger. It's a lovely print; I'd hate for you to have to put it away! The color of the wall is beautiful...I just love it.

Becky,
What about hanging the large mirror above the couch? It looks like it is larger. You could add a decorative piece above ie iron or wood. Maybe switch the two? I like some red transfer ware plates hung nest to the current picture may look nice to carry the french country theme.

Hi Becky! Thanks for stopping by the back porch!

I love your room!!

I would leave the print above the sofa and add a couple of plates on one side and perhaps a lantern type sconce, in a dark bronze, on the other. An architectural type piece over the print might work, too. Mybe in a weathered mustard color. It wouldn't be symmetrical, arranged that way. A more symmetrical look would be to do all of the above and replace the sconce with two more of the plates, as I suggested for the other side. I always put everything, I plan to use, on a wall, on the floor and switch and change until I see something that pleases me. See what you can "borrow" from other rooms, for the sofa arrangement. I love doing that. Fun and not too spendy.

I've enjoyed visiting your blog and your pretty living room.

I love your red room. LOVE it! It would make me so happy. I have no advice to offer. I always go over to Nester's blog for help.

And, I hate to leave this here, but I don't have your email. We are doing a mid-week check-in for the Let's Get Fit challenge. It includes a little contest with a prize. Come on by...

I'm so confused. I really thought I'd posted a comment on this post already, and I was actually coming back to add another idea. But I don't see it here. Hmmm.

Oh well, I'll tell you my idea. I saw on some decorating blog (can't remember which one) where they had hung one really huge empty frame on the wall, then hung lots of smaller pieces inside of it. Does that make sense? You could even have some smaller empty frames, mixed with your picture, and other things. If you can't find a frame big enough you could build a fake one with moulding.

Red is my favorite colour. We painted our house red and the kids and I call it The Big Red House. Our neighbours thought we were nuts but it makes me happy to pull up and see this monstrousity of happiness.

Hi Becky,

Love the colors in your room...You really have a put-together look that only needs a bit more on the wall above the sofa you mentioned. Everyone gave you so many good ideas...the principle here is to fill the space a bit more so the picture doesn't hang out there alone given it's scale is small relative to the sofa. If you don't like symmetry, then you might consider offsetting the big pictures and balancing with a different picture of mirror and maybe a montage of family photos or other memories/items, as suggested by others, around the whole deal.

You might consider hosting a design hop of some of your clever friends and let them help you discover new ideas for the space.
